What are the classifications of fixed resistors?

Date:2025-01-02 Viewed:28

Fixed resistors can be classified according to different classification criteria, and the following are several common classification methods:

Classified by resistor material
Carbon film resistor: using hydrocarbons to decompose at high temperatures and in vacuum, depositing a layer of crystalline carbon film on a ceramic rod or tube, and obtaining different resistance values by changing the thickness or length of the carbon film.
Metal film resistor: Heating the alloy in vacuum to form a conductive metal film on the surface of the ceramic rod, and controlling the resistance value by changing the thickness of the metal film, with high precision and stability.
Metal oxide film resistor: the metal salt solution is deposited on the ceramic skeleton by high temperature spray, which has the advantages of oxidation resistance, acid resistance, high temperature resistance, etc., and is suitable for low resistance circuits.
Wire wound resistor: It is made by winding copper wire or manganese copper wire around an insulating skeleton, which has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, high precision, and high power, and is suitable for high-power circuits.
Classified by structural form
Membrane resistors: including carbon film resistors, metal film resistors, metal oxide film resistors, etc., formed by thin film deposition process to form a resistance layer.
Solid core resistor: made of a mixture of carbon and poor conductive materials, pressed and heat-treated, with low cost but large resistance error and poor stability.
Wire wound resistor: Suitable for high-power applications by winding metal resistance wires on insulated supports.
Classified by purpose
Ordinary fixed resistor: used for current limiting, shunt, voltage division, etc. in general circuits.
Precision resistor: used in circuits that require high precision and stability, such as measuring instruments and communication equipment.
Power type resistor: used in high-power circuits, capable of withstanding large power and temperature changes.
